Character Bio:
Hi im Antigone. I am a activist, I stand up for what i believe in. If you want to talk send me a message.
Location:
Thebes,Greece
Employer & Education:
Unemployed
Marital Status:
engaged to Haemon
Friends:
Creon
Creon is friends with Antigone because in the story Antigone Creaon is Antigone's uncle. Even though they arnt the best of friend in the story they are still family. He had Antigone imprisoned and caused the death of her and her fiance, but they probably would still be friends on face book ☺.
Rosa Parks
Rosa And Antigone would be friends on facebook because rosa is also an activist. She stood up for what she belived in and sat at the front of the bus. Just like Antigone stood up for what she belived in and buried her brother.
Maximilian Kolbe
He was also an activist and put his own life to save another family during the holocaust. He Risks his life, and goes against the government for his family; that sounds a lot like Antigone to me. I'm sure they would get along just fine.
John Proctor
John Proctor from the crucible would make a good friend for Antigone on Facebook. Proctor stood up for what he believed in and said he was not a witch no matter who said otherwise. When it came for him to be put to death or just simple admit he was a witch, he chose death because he would not cave in to the government and the law. This is very much like Antigone who gave he life up for what she believed in. Even though Proctor, unlike Antigone, had small thoughts of initially just giving in he eventually just said, no, and took the death penalty. They are both very strong-willed people with a bit of a rebellion side to them, which make them both perfect friends.
Nicolaus Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus was the scientist who proposed that the earth revolved around the sun and not the other way around. Even though this went against all things religious and of government at the time, he still spoke of his theory’s. Nicolaus was placed under house arrest for life for saying this. He could have easily just said “no, never mind, I’m wrong.” and have been set free but he stuck to his scientist morals and did not let people or the government tell him he was wrong. He was not exactly put to death like Antigone but he served a harsh sentence because of this. He did not care what anyone said and believed in himself, much like Antigone. This dedication, along with being a little stubborn, make Antigone and Copernicus much a like, and it would make them very good friends.
Notes--one for each episode
(the quotes follow the notes of each episode)
Prologue- How dare Creon forbid the burial of one of my own brothers. Even if Polyneices were to betray him, Creon should not have the right to dishonor his dead body and spirit like that. What will happen to him if he is not buried?? What will happen to me if I do not help him?? I must bury his body no matter what Creon demands. My sister, Ismene, though meaning good is caving into Creon’s threats. If she does not wish to help then I do not care. I will die in the name of my brother and against Creon.
Antigone: “No one shall say I failed him! I will bury My brother-and yours too, if you will not.” (46-47) (pg4).
Episode 1. Why is Creon taking such extreme measures to have this body remained unburied. Most of the town is against him and not burying him will solve and do nothing. Let him put a guard to watch the body! I will bury my brother in front of his eyes if he so well pleases. Death to me? So be it.
Creon: “What? Buried it? What man has so defied me?” (248) (10).
Episode 2. So what if I’m put to death. I did the right thing. My brother is a human being and the gods demand he be buried. Creon is just the king, he does not write these rules. I completely admit to burying my brother, I do not care what the punishment is, even if it is risking my own life. Whether it be a friend or an enemy Polynecies deserves to be buried no matter the circumstances.
Antigone: “No, I do not deny it. I admit it.” (444) (pg16).
Antigone: “Even so the god of Death demands these rites.” (517) (pg19).
Episode 3. Haemon has always been a tricky one. Trying to cheer Creon up and acting as if he were on his father‘s side. Too bad his own father is too stubborn to even think of the other possibilities. Haemon would go against his own father just for me? He is a very good man. However, no matter what happens, I have no regrets in what I have done, even if my fiance’s father forbade it. Sorry Haemon but this must happen.
Haemon: “I’d call you mad if you were not my father”
Creon: “What men of our age go to school again and take a lesson from a very boy?” (725-726) (pg25)
Episode 4. Creon has just locked me in this cave. He did not put me to death. He knows I will die here however. May the gods have their wrath on him for what he has done. I no longer wish to live. If this is what Creon wants then so be it. No one is here to mourn me so nothing matters. I’m glad in what I have done and I hope Creon never forgets this.
Creon: “Her home shall be her tomb; there she may live or die, as she may choose: my hands are Creon. But she shall live no more among the living.” (888-890) (pg31)
Episode 5. Hey Creon, does it really take a prophet to make you realize what you did was wrong? Clearly, leaving a human body unburied and locking away a proud woman will angry the gods. If you were a little less stubborn and just opened your eyes as a regular human being instead of the “all powerful king” then maybe you would have seen what you were doing was wrong earlier. Lets just hope after Teiresias and the chours tell you of your treachery that you have enough time to fix your wrong judgment.
Teiresias: “Then I will tell you this; you will not live through many circuits of the racing sun before you give a child of your own body to make amends for murder, death for death.” (1064-1067) (36-37).
Chorus: “Release Antigone from her rock-hewn dungeon, And lay the unburied body in a tomb” (1099-1101) (38).
Episode 6. Now Creon will see the error in his ways. The gods were furious with him. He lost his niece, his son, and his wife, all for an unburied body. Now, Haemon has joined me in the afterlife were we can once again live together, while Creon stays on earth with no one left but himself. My brother, Polynecies, can now rest in peace as he should be. No regrets, no looking back, what happened happened, and Creon deserves nothing less.
Chorus: “Look, Creon draws near, and the burden he bears gives witness to his misdeeds; the cause lies only in his blind error.” (1257-1260) (pg42).
Messenger: “Then in remorse he leaned upon the blade and drove it half its length into his body” (1234-1235) (pg 42)

Antigone became a fan of Activism ..........
Antigone spoke out for the village people in that she deserved her brother should be buried. Everyone was somewhat against not buring him but no one said anything in fear of the king (the government). She went against the kings demands and just buried her brother. She caused change in the end by showing Creon how wrong he really was in preventing the burial of Antigone's brother.

Antigone did not doubt herself at all, during any time in this play. She was completely determined to bury her brother no matter who or what source of power said otherwise. She just went with what she believed, and she knew she had to bury her brother. No one even had a small effect on her decision on whether to bury her brother or not. She just knew she had to and did it.
